A sunburned country? NASA agrees.

Australia has been called a sunburned country but evidence has been mostly anecdotal, for instance, here is a song and a New York Time's bestseller to back it up. Of course there is personal experience. For the first month we moved here it only briefly rained twice. The Sun is always there, shining, or to be exact, burning.

(Sometimes I wonder how the 1st generation of people shipped from Britain survived the sunburns. What a change it was to move from a rainy-all-year-round place to a sunburned continent!)

A recent NASA study provided scientific evidence on how shining Australia is, According to this report. The red color in Australia means it receives the most sun in the world, along with the middle of the Pacific Ocean and the Sahara Desert.

Naturally one will think about take advantage of the ample sunshines/solar energy to replace fossil-based energy sources as it is clean and carbon-neutral. However traditionally Australians have a high dependency on fossil fuels (about 90% according to this website). Hopefully Solar energy will be gaining popularity in the future. Let's wait and see if the Labor government will come up with some incentives to promote its development.
