My first time ever budding was a disaster and MM refused to take a second bite. I wasn't sure what went wrong because I hadn't seen a proper pudding. But at least I learned what a pudding was not supposed to be like.
MM Mama kindly sent me another pudding recipe and I decided to give it a try. I suppose six months is long enough to recover from my last pudding trauma.
As you can see from the picture my second pudding turned out pretty well, delicious even. I can also report that MM just happily devoured the last bits of it today. But I have to admit there were a couple dramas during my production process: 1) I used microwave to cook it, and 2) The first thing MM said after taking his first bite was, " Um, could be... There are many types of puddings and this could be one of them." Doesn't sound very promising, does it?
The reason I had to resort to microwave was because I didn't realize it would take one hour to steam the pudding. My impression from reading the recipe when MM Mama just sent it to me was "Too easy!" I guess I either forgot or didn't register the "one hour steaming" bit. Anyway it was quite late when I suddenly realized I didn't have one hour. Then I realized I didn't really want to wait for an hour for the result either. Therefore my microwave version of the pudding. Luckily it went pretty well.
As far as MM's disheartening (yet philosophical) comment, it turned out he thought the flavor of the pudding was too dull. Of course! I didn't serve it with any sauce--was too eager to see whether I and the microwave got the texture right. MM finally gave me an approval smile when he had his 2nd bit with an orange-syrup sauce (also made with microwave by the way).
There you are, my pudding story with a happy ending ;)
