MM decided to bake a cake for Yoyo's birthday. It was the first time ever for him to make a cake and he settled on "On-the-nose-pear-shaped-cake", aka, "upside-down pear almond cake". Because both MM and Yoyo like to say "Pear-shaped" these days.
Because baking is normally part of Yoyo's portfolio, MM didn't have a clue on many things. Here is a list of all the questions he asked:
1. Do we have enough almonds at home?
2. We don't have butter milk, do we?
(Made a face after learning "butter milk = milk + vinegar")
3. Which oven setting should I use?
3. What choice of cake-dish do I have?
4. Butter! Where is it?
5. Where is that measure spoon thingy?
6. Plain-flour, that is all-purpose, ya? That will do for cake, ya?
7. Um, there is not many almonds here. Do we have more?
8. Sugar. Two types required. Where can I find sugar?
(I think I got everything now).
(Um, maybe not. I cannot find anything).
9. Where is the top part of the blender?
(In the fridge? No wonder I could not find it).
10. The recipe says "whisk them together"--should I use the machine or should I do it by hand?
11. White vinegar, it says. Do we have any?
12. Aha, baking powder! It would be rather tragic if I forget about it--where is it?
(After cake was ready to eat...)
13. What should I use to lift the cake (into your plate)?
The cake turned out not only pretty (i.e. not pear-shaped at all) but also delicious. YY was impressed--she could not have done a better job herself.
