China trip II -- having fun

Frankly I didn't have much feeling of having fun until the last several days of our trip, when we were in Hong Kong. Before that point we first spent about ten days in my home town, where we were busy in visiting families and of course shopping. Then we were in Beijing for a week, where I had a conference that I helped to organize, so that was mainly work. For MM though he did have a lot of fun in Beijng where he visited Lama Temple (with me), Temple of Confucius (with me), Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Fragrant Hill, the Olympic Stadiums, The Urban Planning Meseum, Wangfujing (with me and my colleagues), Houhai (with me and my colleagues) and the Great Wall (with me and my colleagues)...

My general impression about China is that it is prettier compared to my last trip in June 2007. Lots have been done before the Olympics. My home town, for example, constructed several impressive-looking bridges. The downside though, is that people from all over China came to the Beijing area for fun (and to check out the Olympic Stadiums) in Oct, which is the best time of the year weather-wise in Beijing (You need a special permit to go to Beijing during the Olympic Games). As a result, every tourist spot was packed, according to MM.

Hong Kong was more fun then I expected and it deserves a post of its own.
